The 5 Biggest Sins Bodybuilders Make with their Diet
It just can’t be denied. A Bodybuilding diet is a part of every bodybuilder’s routine. It doesn’t matter whether you are a pro or an amateur because a bodybuilding diet is so important that it can be your ticket to Muscle Heaven or Muscle Hell.
And because a good bodybuilding diet is so important for achieving muscle gains, it is the sole reason why huge mistakes are committed. Mistakes are a part of almost any endeavor and they range from being funny to annoying to dangerous. Below is a list of the five biggest mistakes a bodybuilding dieter can make.
You must understand that my goal in sharing this information with you is not to frighten, or worse, make fun of you and your woes in bodybuilding diet. The ultimate goal is to show you the best way to correct these mistakes and hence, maximize the potential for the muscle gain you desire.
1. Lack Of Patience
Every bodybuilding dieter has a flaw but the worst is definitely impatience. There is no instant formula for a successful bodybuilding diet. It takes time for a bodybuilding diet program to work and a lot of bodybuilding dieters make the mistake of jumping from one diet to another simply because they are too impatient to stay with one program for longer than a week. You must remember that at least three weeks is what it takes for your body to adapt to the new diet. For example, if you are adapting a low-fat, high carb bodybuilding diet, don’t expect to start losing fat until approximately 21 days.
2. Not Measuring Your Calorie Intake
Because a lot of bodybuilding dieters don’t keep records of what they eat, the amount of carbohydrates and proteins they take, or the overall fat and calorie intake they make, many of them don’t lose fat or gain muscle mass at the expected rate. Any miscalculation in your calorie-intake is a risk not worth taking. So keep tabs of your food consumption. This is what every bodybuilding dieter should always keep in mind to ensure success in their bodybuilding diet endeavor. The easiest way around this mistake is to keep a daily journal. That way you can also easily recall any changes in your diet.
3. Eating Irregularly
Haphazard and sporadic eating is something every bodybuilding dieter should avoid. Whether you are adapting a three-meals-a-day bodybuilding diet plan on doing the five a day plan, staying consistent is the answer to losing fat and gaining muscle. By eating consistently and regularly, you avoid the risk of gaining undesired fat. A common example is where people eat little for breakfast and lunch and then fill themselves up for dinner. The irregular nature of that is a surefire way to put on dreaded fat instead of muscle.
4. Obsession With Weighing Yourself on the Scales
Remind yourself what the ultimate reason you are bodybuilding for is. Is it to feel stronger? Possibly, to impress people by looking stronger with toned and defined muscles? If you keep the reasons for your bodybuilding venture in your mind, you will not need to worry so much about what number the scales read. Just remember that bodybuilding is primarily a visual sport. So even if the scales or body fat calipers don’t give you the gauge you’re expecting, it is likely that your fat loss/bodybuilding diet is still probably working, especially if your photos or an unbiased observer tells you that you look leaner and fuller. Also remember that muscle weighs more than fat. So if you’ve gained a few pounds, that doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ve gained fat, it is more likely that you have gained muscle mass.
5. Supplements Work Like Magic
In a proper bodybuilding diet, this is known as wishful thinking. No supplements, no matter how good their products reviews are, can make you shed fats in say, a day. Remember that supplements can only do so much in a bodybuilding diet. Yes, they do aid in the process of losing fat or building muscle but without true commitment to the program and nutritional common sense, you will not achieve your goal.
